Keyword research is hugely important when it comes to creating content for your website; we cannot stress this point enough. When you search for a product or particular service on Google, how often do you look at the second page, or even third? In most cases, you’ll not look further than Google’s first page.
When producing content, copywriters will always use keyword research tools before creating copy. In doing so, they can determine which keywords they should be optimizing for to get their content seen in the correct places, by the right people.
Essential Keyword Research Tools
If you’re unsure of the process of keyword research and analysis, we’ve put together a quick guide to keyword research and the digital marketing tools you should be aware of.
SEMrush is a favourite SEO keyword research tool of mine. Dedicated to all things SEO, SEMrush boasts an unparalleled level of features. The keyword analysis tool provides both short and long tail keyword research. SEMrush also displays keyword data for both PPC and organic traffic. The keyword research tool is one of the leading functions on the site, allowing you to find terms that will make a real difference to your content. Specific to more than 130 countries, the keyword analysis tool shares data on how many searches the keywords receive, their number of results and the CPC AdWords price. In turn, this allows you to look at your competitors and work to outrank them with your use of keywords.
Moz Keyword Explorer
Moz is one of the major players when it comes to SEO digital marketing tools. The Moz toolbar and blog is so popular and useful; it’s no surprise their Keyword Explorer is heavily used. The Keyword Explorer provides plenty of useful seeds when it comes to distributing content. You can see the DA of the websites listed and find searches without heavy competition, allowing you to jump in front. Moz provides exceptional detail for the opportunity, priority and difficulty for when it comes to ranking for particular keywords.
KWFinder is a long tail keyword research tool, and another popular keyword analysis tool. Similar to the other keyword research tools mentioned, this one shows you suggestions for keywords, how they seem to be trending, number of searches, cost-per-click and difficulty level as to ranking for the keyword. You can also see what domains are targeting the keyword, social shares and traffic, providing an extra dimension to your content marketing.
Ahrefs is an all-round SEO tool, and one of my favourites. Not only can you find out almost anything regarding your competitor; backlinks, traffic etc., but the Keyword Explorer is one of the greatest keyword research tools you’ll come across. You can research keywords in over 170 countries, and the digital marketing tool contains indicators such as search volume, click-through-rate, as well as other advanced metrics. There’s a reason it’s one of the most widely used tools in the industry.
Google Keyword Planner
Google Keyword Planner is, perhaps, the biggest and most famous of our top SEO keyword research tools. The most obvious choice for keyword analysis is free and has been used for years in the industry. Google is the search engine you are looking to target with content, and the Keyword Planner boasts a vast amount of search data. Google Keyword Planner enables you to search for new keywords and ad group ideas, as well as gain search volumes for a list of potential keywords and group them. You can discover traffic forecasts for the keywords and also gain new keyword ideas. Keyword Planner can also act as a base for building long tail keywords for your content.
Ubersuggest is another keyword research tool that’s a content writer’s best friend. Ubersuggest is super simple to use, search for one keyword and the digital marketing tool will provide you with a vast list of alphabetised variations of your keyword. You can search for the keywords within specific countries, and it will bring back the monthly volume, CPC and the competition for those keywords.
