About the client
Newcastle University is one of the most popular universities in the UK, consistently ranked in the top tiers for higher education. With that in mind, they were looking to increase those applying for the university through clearing and came to Flow with a brief to increase applications.
After last year’s successful campaign, Newcastle University came to us for help with creating an effective pay-per-click marketing campaign, that would encourage high-achieving students to look at the university and apply via clearing.
Their aim was to raise awareness of the spaces available before results day, and ensure that those applicants with ABB+ grading would apply through the clearing hotline, once it opened on the 13th August.
To achieve successful and manageable results, we set up a Google AdWords campaign with a combination of search only and display ads. Based on an analysis of last year’s keyword search trends, we developed a feasible budget schedule and a matching campaign layout.
In order to capture a broad range of relevant search queries, we set up multiple ad groups with similar exact match keywords and tailored ads with varying call to action for the pre and post-clearing phase. Specifically targeted display campaigns were utilised to generate awareness and reach the relevant audience on websites within the Google Display Network.
As the campaign was limited in time, we provided weekly updates to the client to give them transparency and assure the campaign was generating the desired results.
